"Never was so much owed by so many to so few" - Winston Churchill, 1940. Roger Kenward was just six-years-old when he witnessed the Battle of Britain in the Sussex skies through his beady eyes. His story explains the innocence of youth and how exciting wartime was for a young boy.

The Battle of Britain was crucial to the allies winning World War II. It is the name given to the Royal Air Force's (RAF) defence against the German Air Force's (Luftwaffe) attacks of the South East of England. It began on the 10 July 1940 and ended on the 31 October 1940, overlapping with the carpet bombing of London during The Blitz. It is widely regarded as Britains "Finest Hour".

Hitler expected Britain to sign a peace treaty following France's demise but the Brits kept fighting. In order for Germany to occupy Britain, they had to first gain air superiority by wiping out the RAF. Britain defended itself valiantly in the aeroplane-only campaign and prevented Hitler from launching "Operation Sealion", his planned occupation of our homeland.
